Ha Giang – the beloved northernmost point

Ha Giang is one of the highest provinces of Vietnam and contains the Vietnam’s northernmost point. It shares the border with China in the north and is surrounded by Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai The topography of Ha Giang is rather complicated and can be divided into 3 areas: The area on the south has rocky mountain, separated valleys and rivers. The west area has sloping mountain side, high pass, valleys, and narrow springs. The low land area includes hills, valley of Lo River, and Ha Giang Town.

The nature has granted Ha Giang a lot of spectacularly beautiful sites. Visiting here, tourists can see Lung Cu mount where the 23o 22′ North latitude running across, Tay Con Linh mount of 2,500m in height above sea level, Thi waterfall, Thanh Ha hot mineral water zone, Quan Ba stalactities, Ma Pi Leng mount, Nho Que river, Vuong family’s building, Dang Can rocky highland, Lung Cu flagpole, etc. Especially, Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark was officially recognized by UNESCO on October 2010 as one of 77 members of the Global Geopark Network (GGN) – becoming the first geopark in Vietnam and the second of the kind in East Asia. If luckily, tourists can see many other amazing natural phenomenons when traveling to Ha Giang – the heaven is not far away.

Ha Giang has many ethnic groups living together namely H’Mong, Tay, Dao, Giay, Nung, Bo Y, Lo Lo, La Chi, Pathen, Kinh, etc. Therefore, a lot of unique local festivals are celebrated every year in whole Ha Giang province, eg: Spring Festival, Khau Vai love market, Fire dancing festival of Pathen ethnic…in Sapa Vietnam. Ha Giang also owns primeval forests with a large number of rare and precious animals and plants, special cultural features. Moreover, there are many specialities and local-made products such as orange, plum, peach, tea, honey, brocade, and many kinds of precious medical herbs and a lot of unforgettable foods and drinks.

The best time to visit Ha Giang is between the end of September and November, when tourists can see “tam giac mach” flower in every mountain slopes and fields or in the spring (from January to March) when plum, peach flowers are blossoming and many festival are celebrated. The weather at these times is quite cold but still has sunshine.
