An Quang pagoda is the famous pagoda in Vietnam which is also a Buddhist school under Southern Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
This pagoda is located on 243 Sư Van Hạnh street, no 9 precinct, 10 district, Ho Chi Minh city.
It was established in 1948 and then was extended. Now it has library and publishing house. Before 1975, the pagoda was the main office of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and now it is VBS’s headquarter in the Southern.
The Buddhist school was established in 1950 and within 2 years it became the most prestigious Buddhist centre in Southern of Vietnam.

The pagoda was firstly built in 1948 by the mont Thich Tri Huu, at that time, this was only a small pagoda called Ung Quang pagoda.
In 1950, the mont Thich Tien Hoa (1907 – 1978) was taken over it after 10 years of studying abroad.
Then, Thich Thien Hoa built a central chamber which was followed the Tu Dam pagoada in Hue. From that on, Thich Thien Hoa dedicated his life to embellish the pagoda and establish the Buddhist school.
